Sunday 27th March 2011

What a lovely weekend it’s been. I spent most of this afternoon in the greenhouse sowing yet more seeds. Today a planted a variety of Courgettes and Squashes some I’ve never grown before, so that’ll be interesting to see how they turn out. Some Sprouting Broccoli, normal and baby Sweetcorn, Butternut Squash, Coriander and Okra, which I’m starting on the window sill and then transferring to the greenhouse when it’s much warmer. I’ve also been having a sort out of various other plants that needed to be potted on. The 12 Atlantic Giant Pumpkin seeds that I sowed a while back are growing well, so far 8 have popped through. I hope the others don’t grow as I haven’t a clue where they’ll go. I’m sure I’ll find space though.

Sounds like heaven to me. Wish I had a greenhouse. I will have to enjoy yours from a distance.

In Texas – we would LOVE to have your weather. We’ve had 0.01 inch of rain the entire month of April- We’re at 38% of normal rainfall. It’s so warm the greens are bolting.
Just watched the first two epesodes of The Horticultural Channel.
You were fantastic ( as usual) and I loved the entire program! Not only is it informative- It’s very enjoyable and seems to absolutly “float” from one presenter to the next. I loved it…

    • Hi Bob,
In the last 6 weeks we’ve had hardly any rain, and the soil is very dry and hard. Looks like we’ll have a hose pipe ban this year. It’s supposed to be April showers, but there’s no sign of that at the moment.
I’m glad you enjoy the programme, it’s great fun to film.
      Claire
