Lego isn’t just a toy!

Now we’re huge Lego and James Bond fans in our house, always have been. Our kids have some of the Lego that I used to play with. When I was little I used to make building for my little figures and gardens. Today our kids make space ships and goodness knows what else. But this is just amazing….. Casino Royale.

Monday 13th May 2013 – Still windy, but that won’t stop me.

The windy has subsided a little, but it’s still too cold for May. The sun comes and goes, and it’s very hard to believe that last Monday we had a BBQ and sat outside and ate, and the temperature was 24! Hopefully it’ll warm up again soon and the wind will calm down. I’m a bit worried about several fence posts in the garden, 2 have already broken, and are being propped up, I hope more don’t go. We’re going to get it all replaced soon, but I hope it lasts til then.  I did spend a pleasant morning on my plot, finishing another bed which had last years leeks in. I’ve now harvested them all and they’ll go in dinners in replacement of the onions. Leeks can stay in the ground until you’re ready for them, as they tend not to get spoilt by the cold. Mine have been in all winter, and they’re fine. Also, just to let you know that I’ve not forgotten to tell you about my little birdies, but nothing new has happened lately, she’s still sitting on her eggs, and there are still 8 of them. I’m hoping in about a weeks time they will start to hatch, maybe sooner, but fear not I’ll let you know.

Friday 10th May 2013 – Not quite so windy, but at least my tits are safe in my box.

After the battering we got yesterday from the wind, today was still very breezy but not quite as bad. I spent 3 hours on the allotment this morning. The first 2 hours were working at digging yet more of another bed, and the last hour was spent chatting to a fellow allotment holder. It’s a social thing, and we had a lot to catch up on. Even in this windy weather my coal tits are very happy and snug in their little box. She’s still sitting on her 8 eggs though and there’s no sign of hatching yet. I think she lays what she is going to, and then incubates them. Which means we’ve got about another week before hatching will start. Don’t worry I’ll keep you posted on their progress. We had a down pour of rain last night, but it didn’t seem to do anything to the ground. It’s still very hard, but this weekend is supposed to be a bit iffy, so after my bell ringing competition on saturday morning and a pop over to my cousin in the afternoon I may find time to hide in the greenhouse and won’t mind the rain.

Thursday 9th May 2013 – Windy day, and no it’s not me!

Well the temperature has plummeted from 20 to 13! I was just getting used to the warmth, and then it disappeared. So it’s back in trousers and a jumper and no suncream for the moment. I managed to dig another bed and a half this morning. I had to buy some new gardening trainers, as mine had holes in the side and dirt kept getting in. I only wanted a cheap pair so I christened them this morning on the allotment and now they’re not white, but dirty white. It’s very windy today, and heavy showers. I just got in the car to come home, and it started to rain, so that was planned perfectly. The greenhouse is being kept closed today because of the wind, but there are various plant pots that have been blown around the garden, so I’ll have to go and retrieve them later. The potatoes are coming through the soil, and various other seedlings, so it’s looking good, although a little slow.

Tuesday 7th May 2013 – Another glorious day.

Well we’ve really been spoiled this bank holiday weekend. Saturday (10th Annual World Naked Gardening Day) started a little cloudy, but as the day went on the sun came out and stayed out. Monday was warm enough for a BBQ and to eat outside, and today reached 22.5 degrees according to the car. So this morning before I went to the allotment I had to apply some suncream. Also the white legs have come out as I’m wearing shorts. This mornings task was firstly to water the allotment. It’s all growing really well, the potatoes are coming through and the radish are popping up, as well as many other seeds. So I’m a happy bunny at the moment. I managed to finish digging another bed, and removed yet more stones. I do need to get in the greenhouse to pot up more bits and pieces, and the next few days are going to be a bit rainy, so it’ll be the perfect time to do that little job. I also found a rogue radish growing in a potato bed. I’m not sure how it got there, but I picked it and it tasted very crisp and hot. Just a taster of what is to come this summer.
