Early on in winter is the best time to plant your blueberries in the garden. They’ll get settled in their new home during the cold weather, and will be all ready to burst into blossom in the Spring. Blueberries need a friend, so make sure you plant at least 2 plants. They don’t have to be the same variety, so choose different ones to get a bit of variation.
Blueberries grow best in large pots as they prefer ericaceous compost. You should be able to find this in any good garden centre.
The varieties of Blueberries I’m growing are Goldtraube, and Blue Crop.
Great advice Claire, I’ve never grown blueberries before, but I think I will give it a bash! 🙂
They are very easy to grow, and fresh blueberries are wonderful.
Claire, some day I will have blueberries and this information will be helpful. Some parts of the USA blueberries grow wild but not in my area. Blackberries and mulberries grow wild in my area of the country. Eventually, I do want to build a fruit cage. Wild life here will steal every single berry before it even gets ripe if not grown inside a fruit cage. So growing berries requires a bit more work here or one just feeds the wild life.
Have a great blueberry day in the garden.
Nebraska Dave
Hopefully you’ll get to grow some soon. I’ll have to see if I have a problem with the wildlife in the summer.
