I had a great time on my allotment this today. It was full of the joys of cutting grass, weeding, clearing out one of my compost heaps and putting the contents in old tyres and then planting Strawberries in those tyres. I also harvested some more Asparagus, brushed my lower leg up against a stinging nettle (don’t do that, it’s rather painful), and had a sort out of my bamboo canes and plastic bottles. So I got lots done in 4 hours! I ended up with 3 barrow loads full of green waste, so you know you’ve had a good day when you manage that amount. As I was harvested some more of my Asparagus. I noticed some Asparagus Beetle on them. I wasn’t sure what to do with them, but now I’ve found out, I’ll have to sort them out tomorrow.

Claire, I wanted to plant more sweet corn today but only got the wee little sprouts that came up in the first bed all weeded. It was some what difficult to determine what was grass and what was corn since they are both just sprouting and belong to the same family. I guess I’ll find out how well I did with triage iin a couple weeks when they start showing their real colors. The next sweet corn bed was given another digging to rid it from the bind weed and other fast growing noxious weeds. After a doctor lab appointment for my mother in law (89 years old), it started to rain an gentle well behaved rain. It has a bit of thunder but nothing extreme. Just a nice rain. I’m not sure I’ll get back to plant that second bed of sweet corn until the end of the week as it’s supposed to be raining for two to three days. Even if the garden is wet there’s other thing to work on. A water storage platform that will store 150 gallons of water to be used for watering the garden is the next structure project.
Have a great day on the allotment.
