Wednesday 9th July 2014 – I’ve started to sort out the fruit patch.

The fruit patch that I created several years ago has been a bit neglected over the past couple of years. It’s been very low down on my list of priorities, which I know is not right. But now that all the beds are sorted and everything is growing really well. I can now put all my concentration into finally getting to grips with it, and sorting it out before the autumn sets in. The soil is fairly compact which is a bit of a problem, so it has to be loosened with the big fork, then the weeds and couch grass roots have to be taken out by using my little trowel. It’s a slow laborious process, but it seems to be working well. I also harvested the first of my Sugar Snap Peas, and Climbing French Beans, so we’ll have a mixture of those for dinner tonight. We had quite a lot of rain yesterday as well as some thunder that rattled around for about and hours. It was nothing major with only a few flashes of lightning, but some of the rumbles were quite sizeable. So even though I only got a couple of hours at the allotment today, I managed to get quite a bit done. Hopefully tomorrow will be good then I can carry on. Only the weather will decide that one (be dry….please!!)

  1. Good luck with the couch grass! (I know all about that.)
