I picked my first cucamelon today! Very nice but quite tough skinned i found. Have about 10 more fruits that could do with a few days longer.

Ive heard theyre nice pickled? Any recipes?

    • Make sure you pick them when they’re no bigger than the size of an olive, otherwise they get bitter. I’ve not had a problem with tough skins. As for recipes, we just eat them as they are, they don’t last ling enough to pickle.

I have 6 plants that are fairly prolific. I have pickled two small jars of them but am not sure what to do with the rest. I have a bowl full in the fridge which I picked yesterday and many more too small to pick at the moment. Any advice as to what to do with them?

    • Well we just kept eating them. But someone suggested pickling them like Gherkins. I’ve never tried it, but it sounds like it should work after all they’re from the same family “Curcubits”. Have a look online for a recipe.

My plants grew large and really healthy and produced huge amounts of small yellow flowers, some with what looked to be miniature fruits at the base, however they never grew any larger than this and I never produced any real fruit. I even went as far as cotton bud pollination in case that was the problem but nothing seemed to help. Any ideas why?!

    • I’m wondering if they weren’t warm enough. They do like the sun, and I grow mine in the greenhouse. Mine weren’t as prolific as last year, and I put them in a different place in the greenhouse this year. Make sure they’re in full sun for as much of the day as possible. I hope this helps.
