Wednesday 22nd May 2013 – A fun afternoon in the greenhouse.

Well it’s just been gardening all day hasn’t it. I’ve done house work too, and other stuff, so I’m not neglecting those duties. I’ve been potting up loads, so here goes….Firstly, Melons “Ambrosia Cantaloupe” from Chuck and “Ogen“, then Fennel “Victoria” and finally Cucumber “Cuccino”. I made a few films, but Mark’s away all next week so I’m not sure when they’ll get done. The greenhouse is bursting at the seems, and I’m not sure if I can chance planting anything out yet. I’ll look at the 10 day forecast and go from there.

Hi again Claire, thanks for your latest blog – just wanted a little advice if possible? I have Runner, Broad & French Beans out, together with Carrot, Potato, Shallots, Onions and Garlic (which is going crazy!!) – my question is . . have I put them out too soon? Thanks again Claire – James & Jen

    • Most of these will be ok, but be aware that the runners, and french beans are tender crops and don’t like the slightest bit of frost as this will kill them. If you’ve got them in the soil cover them with some fleece until the beginning of June. If the outside temperature dips below 5 degrees at night the won’t like it.
