Phew!! Another hot and humid day. Getting hotter over the weekend, but Monday looks slightly cooler. Picked enough mangetout for dinner tonight, can’t wait to eat them. Boil for 2 minutes, so they are still crunchy. Also picked the first of the strawberries and raspberries. So much flavour, fruity, very sweet and warmed by the sun. Checked the gooseberries, I’ve got loads this year. Tried 2 and they’re ready, will pick on Monday and make jam. Planted more tomatoes, but have run out of space in the beds, so need to get more cardboard boxes and tyres next week. Enjoy the weekend.

Claire, are goosberries sweet or tart?
When they are ripe they are a little tart, but mainly sweet. I made a video today about harvesting gooseberries, which should be up next week. They are a wonderful fruit though, very under rated.

You cannot beat strawberries fresh and still sum warmed, mine are all finished cropped about 12 lbs this year, mind you not many reached the table. I too have a laarge harvest of goosegogs hope to pick some this morning. i`m off early begore the sun gets too strong. Enjoy your day

Claire sorry I have a question regarding the process you use to pot different veggies into their single cells, why is it that you let them dry out before transplanting into their since cells and also, how long do you not water them before transplanting the little plants?
I let the soil dry out, as it makes it easier to remove the plant from the soil. If the soil is all wet then the soil hangs onto the small plant roots, and may break the tiny stem. Only let them dry for a couple of days. Make sure the plants don’t go droopy. Also, when you transplant the cells to the ground do the same as the plant is easier to remove and the roots hold the soil together. If the soil is wet then you end up leaving half of it in the pot.

I know what you mean. Unless you get in the garden at 5am for a couple of hours, it’s just too hot to stay out for long. I’m still in bed at that time, so I’ve just got to stand the heat, and drink loads of water to keep going.
