But let’s not call the whole thing off….
What ever way you say tomato, they are sown in the same way. Now the weather is getting warmer, March is the perfect time to sow them. This is how I’m sowing mine…..

A huge thanks to all the new backers of my fantasy novel THE END OF MAGIC who’ve joined us in the last week.
I’m still hitting my 1% per day target, which is great, and as a treat (punishment?) here’s another clip of me reading from the book with another terrible accent…
Enjoy and if you haven’t pledged yet, you can do so here, and if you have pledged then please keep spreading the word!
With eternal gratitude – Mark
The above title must be said in a gruff London voice, because I feel a little bit like Sweeney Todd, but with greenhouses and not a cut throat razor!
I am please to report that the greenhouse are up and ready for use. It’s been a long journey to get them to where they are, why not come and see how I went about it.
On this week’s Bestseller Experiment podcast I spoke to Ghostwriter Roz Morris, who gives a very thorough breakdown of how a ghostwriter works, and also describes a fun way of developing story ideas that involves scraps of paper and a box.
Mark Desvaux has had to bow out of the podcast for a few episodes due to a family illness, so I was ably assisted by Jenn McMenemy who, as well being on the podcast as a guest previously, has also launched her own podcast Ancient History Fangirl, which is huge fun and proves once again that history is a great resource for writers.
This week’s Deep Dive podcast is a cracker, looking into audiobooks, the fastest growing sector of publishing. We talk to Orion Audio’s Paul Stark about mainstream audiobook publishing, and we also get contributions from indie authors Jo Ho and Michael R Miller…

Since my greenhouses have been completed, I’ve been very busy sowing seeds . Over the last couple of days I’ve sown the following seeds, there are a lot, so I hope you’re paying attention.
Here goes….Firstly Tomatoes “Gardening Delight”, “Bartelly”, “Apero” and “Mountain Magic”. Then Chives, Sweet Basil, Parsley “Moss Curled” and Parsley “Giant of Italy. Next Cauliflower “Orkney” and Cauliflower “Fortaleza”, Brussels Sprouts “Braemar”, and Spinach “Trombone”. Then finally a selection of salad leaves: Lettuce “Tantan“, Land cress, Lettuce “Arctic King”, Tatsoi, and Rocket “Serrata“.
And that’s just for starters. Lots more still to sow, so I’ll keep you posted. Don’t worry, I’ve made some videos, and they’ll be up on my channel very soon.
Don’t forget I’m writing lots of Claire’s Essentials ebooks, and if you are growing Tomatoes I have a book available for only 99p. Click HERE for more information.
When sowing your fruit and vegetable seeds, make sure you also sow some flower seeds as well. Flowers are very important on your fruit and veggie patch, because they attract the bees and other pollinators. Many plants need these pollinators so they can produce the goodies we harvest. Choose your seeds carefully, so you grow just the right ones. There is no point in growing flower seeds that the pollinators don’t like. So today I sowed the following: Nasturtium “Gleam Mixed”, Sweet Pea “Fragrantissima”, Nocotiana “Lime Green”, Cosmos “Colour Mix”, and Cosmos “Purity”. I’m hoping the pollinators will all love these. I sowed them all in seed trays with some multi purpose compost, and they are labeled correctly and in the greenhouse with a propagator lid over the top of them to help keep in some heat. When they’re big enough and the weather is warmer, I will plant them outside, planting them around the raised veggie and fruit beds, as well as in the flower border.
Spring is here, and so is British Summer Time! I hope you’ve changed your clocks, otherwise you’ll be late to work this morning. It’s slightly darker in the morning, but the sun sets later, which is wonderful.

Happy days! I just hit 50% FUNDED on THE END OF MAGIC! In the words of the poet, ‘Woah, we’re halfway there, woa-oh, we’re livin’ on a prayer!’
Huge thanks and big love to everyone who’s pledged so far. It’s incredible to me to think that we’ve come so far in just a few weeks.
As a treat (punishment?) here’s a quick extract of me reading from THE END OF MAGIC…
I apologise in advance for the Scots accent. a) The character was written that way, and b) I’m an old ham and can’t help myself.

This morning I was delighted to discover that we’ve hit 42% funded, with 93 wonderful, beautiful backers!
42, of course, is the answer to the question of Life, the Universe and Everything as featured in the Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy (definitely my Desert Island Discs book), and so I’m doubly happy. I’m still hitting my 1% per day target, and it would be great to hit 50% this time next week.
I’m still finding that personalised emails and messages are the best way to get responses and pledges, but my address book will inevitable run out at some point, so I’ve started experimenting with some social media ideas to get the word out there…

If you’re on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, do please share them far and wide and a huge thank you to everyone who has done so already.
