More planting out to do which is great. My raised beds are getting fuller and fuller. Today is the turn of the Brukale which are a cross between Brussels Sprouts and Kale. Here’s how I plant out mine…
Sorry about the knobbly knees in the picture, it was hot and I was wearing shorts.
All forms of peas are best sown in succession (some each month), that way you’ll have a good supply throughout the summer. Peas can be sown from March through to September (if the weather is still good). They can be sown directly in the soil, or in seed trays.
They will need a structure to climb up, so make sure it’s a sturdy one.
Yes it’s that time now when all those plants can be planted outside. Lots to do, but firstly the spinach. I like spinach, and so do the chickens, so hopefully we won’t be fighting over it….
Time to prick out my hot chillies and sweet pepper chillies into individual 3 inch pots. They’ve been growing very well so far. When you prick them out, make sure you label them correctly as you don’t want any surprises…
Whether you call them aubergines or egg plants, they are pricked out the same way. It’s that time of year now when the sowing is all done, and now it’s full steam ahead with pricking out.
Radishes can be grown all year round. The winter varieties take a little longer to grow, but are just as delicious. There are so many different varieties to choose from, so go and have a look, and choose what ever takes your fancy.
Make sure you sow your radishes little and often, as they will go to seed very quickly. Once they have gone to seed, the inside of the radish will go woody, and it will be inedible.
My courgettes, and pumpkins have been growing really well, but now they need to be pricked out into individual 3 inch pots. It’s very easy to do, and this is how I do mine…
Beetroot seeds can be sown directly out in the soil from the middle of April, all the way through to the end of June. They are very easy seeds to sow and they are quite large, and very knobbly.
Carrots are one of the easiest vegetables to grow. What ever your age, and what ever space you have available, there is a carrot out there for you. Carrots will grow perfectly well in a large pot, as well as out in the open ground.
Carrots can be sown anytime from March through to the end of June, so you’ve got plenty of time to still get a batch in. Watch out if any wild rabbits get in your garden, as they will enjoy eating them. We have a small bunny that comes to visit, so I’ll have to watch and make sure we get the carrots and not him.
Here’s how I sow mine…carrot seeds, and not bunnies.
