No, I’m not worried about the date, as I’m not in anyway superstitious. I got loads done today, so let’s start at the beginning as that is probably the best thing to do. I planted 18 popcorn plants under a fleece in a block 6 x 3. Times tables always come in handy even when you’re gardening. I also planted 6 more pumpkin plants again under fleece. I’ve run out of bottles to put on the sticks, so I used the plant pots that they came in. Weeded another 2 beds, got more manure and leaves. Then I did a job that I’ve been meaning to do for years….tidy my shed. It’s when you tidy it that you realise how many pairs of gloves you’ve gone through. Why I put them back in the shed I’ll never know. I came across several really large spiders, and lots of mess. We’ve got a skip on site for the weekend to get rid of any general rubbish, so I filled up my wheelbarrow and emptied it in the skip. Job done.

One plot is complete, just the other to go! I’m over the half way mark, and it feels like I’m gaining. Plot 2 is at present weed free and all the grass is trimmed. When I go tomorrow I’m sure that some will have appeared and grown huge over night. I’ve now started weeding and strimming the grass on Plot 1. Also today I planted 24 Calabrese (Broccoli). They’re under netting so the birds don’t feast on them. I love my petrol strimmer as it makes grass cutting so easy. Having tried a cordless strimmer, the petrol one has so much more power, yes they are expensive, but worth every penny, especially if you’ve got a large garden or allotment.

I’ve just been in the garden watering the grass (it’s a plant and needs watering like any other. I know some people don’t bother watering their grass, but I like soft grass under my feet), and you’ll never guess what….I felt a few spots of rain!!! There wasn’t much, but it was a little. I’m still pumping the bath water down into the butt and the plants seem to love it (including the grass). I popped to the allotment this morning for a couple of hours, and I got in my Baby Sweetcorn. I’ve put it under some fleece, just incase of a last minute frost. Also, 2 Cabbages that I’ve netted to keep the birds off, and obviously the usual weeding and manure/leaf moulding. It’s spitting quite a bit now. We seem to be having April showers in May? That’s the British weather for you.

I got 4 more Pumpkins in the ground today, and covered them the same way as I did yesterday. The rain that we had over the weekend doesn’t even show on the soil on the allotment, but the plants are growing very well considering. I also weeded another 2 beds, strimmed more grass and spread more manure/leaves. At least 1 plot is nearly sorted, just the other one to go. I’m nearly half way! What shall I put in tomorrow? I’ll have to have a rummage in the greenhouse to find something.

Had to tackle some stinging nettles today, and even with my thick gloves on they got me, and two fingers on my left hand are tingling. Still I won’t be beaten and won’t scratch. I planted 4 Atlantic Giant Pumpkin plants today. It’s a little early to put them out, but they’re just getting too big and some have little baby pumpkins growing already. I covered them with fleece, just incase we get a last minute frost. I made a little video about it, so hopefully it’ll explain it a bit better. Got more weeding done, and leaf/manure spreading, so a good day.
