About 3 years ago, I sowed some Asparagus seeds. You don’t have to do it that way, you can buy a crown of Asparagus from a garden centre. But you know me, I like to do everything the long way. Asparagus needs commitment, and if sown from seed, you can start to be harvest it in the third year. If from a crown, then you can harvest in the second year. This is the first time I’ve been able to harvest any, and today I was so proud. I went up the allotment and there staring at me were 4 beautifully long spears, another couple that are nearly ready and loads of others that are growing. I harvested 4 (that’s one each) and I’ll roast them in the oven and we’ll have them for dinner, with other food as well.
I then continued with planting alternate lines of Carrots and Onions. I’ve finished sowing “Autumn King 2”, and then sowed “Norfolk F1” and the “Purple Haze F1“. I’ve still got more to do, which I’ll do tomorrow. The weather this week is supposed to be amazing, so I’ll be spending as much time as possible on my allotment. I’ll keep you up dated on what mischief I get up to.
Happy Star Wars day everyone. May The Force be with my Asparagus!!
