Sunday 7th April 2013 – Staring at the plot.

Makes me laugh every time. If you’ve not noticed it before take a look at what someone does when they first arrive at their plot. Most people, including myself have a quick look to see what needs to be done that day. I then take a walk up and down the plot to check that everything is in order, say “Hello” to it, and then I start work. When I was on my plots today, a plot holder came along, and stared at his plot for about 10 minutes then was gone. What was he thinking? He’s new to the site, so maybe he was a little over whelmed by the task ahead. Anyway I’ve got in the rest of my King Edward potatoes, so all the potatoes are in now. Next task, the garlic…and there’s a lot of it!

lovely post Claire I moved my chickens to their new area but need to still fence it in so hattie still has to be on lead still until it’s done

Oh, I do this all the time! I must look like a loon!

In my defence, I live about a minute’s walk away from the plot so often on my way to/from work I drop in just to see if things are OK and to sort out in my mind how much space I have left for everything at home which may need transplanting, whether I need to acquire more boxes to use as cardboard mulch, etc!

All those working away for hours at a time must see me wander in, poke about and wander off than think I’m either the least-commited gardener ever, or I have escaped from somewhere.

  When I’m on my plot I do tend to talk to myself quite a bit. To be honest it doesn’t answer back and doesn’t mind my out of tune singing either. Maybe that’s why I spend so much time there. We all have our little ways. If I’ve not been for a while or it’s the beginning of the new season, I’ll say “Mummy’s here”. You must always say goodbye to your plot before you leave, and tell it when you’ll see it next. Maybe I’ve escaped from somewhere and should go back.

Funny, its so true, a nurturing stare at the plot, I went today and got to put my maincrop spuds in but the top soil was like a desert and I forgot my hosepipe so had to have a good dig again (its clay soil) to get some of the soil with moisture mixed in…am just holding my breath that we have no more sub zero temps or frost eek!

  The weather seems to be getting warmer, especially this weekend. They’re murmuring the temperature of 18 where I live!! May have to go for the first outdoor cooking for the first time this year….ssshhh dont’ say the actual word though.

Hello, just discovered your blog. So true – I always have a mooch around before I get the tools out. It’s just a shame staring at the couch grass doesn’t exterminate it!

  So many people have responded to this observation it’s amazing. We all do and , and talk to our plants even though we may not admit to doing it. Yeah blasted couch grass. If someone could find a way to get rind of that stuff for good we’d all be very happy.
