Sunday 28th October 2012 – Planted my Kiwi and had a tidy.

Another lovely way to spend a sunday today. Firstly the extra hour in be which was great, then the entire afternoon was spent in the garden until about 4.30pm when it started to get dark. I planted my kiwi in a lovely place by the fence, so hopefully it’ll thrive there. I’ll keep you posted on it’s progress, and then I started to tidy the back garden. I’ve cut down the herb patch, so now it looks all naked especially now the mint has all gone. It does tend to take over a bit, so you just have to keep using it when ever you cook potatoes. I’ll try to get out and do some more tomorrow and the rest of the week, it’s half term, so the perfect time.

Kiwi?! Wow, I had no idea a kiwi plant would even grow outside in this country! I find clearing down quite sad so its great to read about what you’re doing 🙂

How is your kiwi doing? I just bought Issai Kiwi seeds. Do you have any idea how long it will take to go from seed to fruit? I have looked high and low on the internet and can’t find anything (and the reason why I stumbled upon your blog!). I’m just curious as to how the plant is doing this Spring.

    • I cheated and got a plant instead of seeds. Let me know how you get on with them, but I would imagine they’d take a while before you could put the plant in the soil. Mine got over shadowed by my holly bush. Now it has plenty of light, so hopefully it’ll grow again. We’re having new fencing put in starting tomorrow, so hopefully it’ll settle itself when the fencing’s all done. When it starts to fruit I’ll make another video, but it won’t be this year.

hi, I’d love to know how your kiwi is doing, how big it is etc! Is there any chance you could put another video up on youtube as to what it looks like now? I just bought myself a kiwi berry but have yet to plant it…. many sites say that I need a good trellis system but I’d like to be able to grow it along my fence how you have. Would definitely love to know how yours is going, whether you had any problems (what sorts) etc 🙂

    • It’s still a bit small at the moment, as the holly bush next to it kind of took over. I’ve trimmed the holly back, so the kiwi has more light. I doubt if I’ll get much out of it this year, but when it does anything interesting I’ll make a video. They need sun, and lots of it. If you don’t have trellis for it to grow up, you can always put wire horizontally across a wall or fencing and attach it that way.
