Thursday 12th July 2012 – The sun shone today!!

What a lovely morning it was, the sun was shining, and it was very pleasant. I had to get my sunglasses out and came over all unnecessary. I got loads done this morning. I did more to my paths, the wood chip and weed suppressant seem to be working well. I weeded another bed and planted several more purple brussel plants in tyres. I also potted on (I think) some pumpkins, well that or squashes I’ll see when they produce fruit. It’s slowly taking shape and I’m winning very slowly with the weeds. That’ll soon change as it’s raining now. Oh, and I also picked 2 more pea pods and ate them, and my first french bean! Happy days.

I potted up my Brussel sprout seedlings today but I was wondering, how many plants per tyre did you do?

Claire – might your squash plants be the vegetable spaghetti plants that I strongly recommended a year or so back? I think that you said that you had bought some seeds. Also, how are you finding the slug population right now? This warm and wet weathr is really producing some real whoppers out there at the moment. If you haven’t got many, I can send you some if you like !

    • I think they are the spaghettis or they may already be in. I can’t remember, so much has gone in (in between the showers). As for the slugs, OH MY GOD! There have been loads of them, and they’re everywhere. Every morning they’re on the garden path and you have to be careful where you step. Don’t walk on the grass in bare feet, you don’t know what you’ll stand on.
