I forgot to mention this before, and Mark just reminded me. I got a nesting box attached to my shed at the bottom of out very short garden. It’s been there for 6 years or so and nothing has even taken an interest in it…..until now.
A few weeks ago a pair of Great tits (all sorts of jokes are rushing through your head I know) took an interest in it, and now they’re nesting. I’ve seen the male birds keep flying in and out of the hole with food in it’s mouth. I might have baby birds soon.
I’ll let you know how they get on, and try to take a picture, but I don’t want to scare them.
I have Great tits in by big box!!!!! Innuendo’s are a plenty.

I’ll bet you seldom get to tell this to the Vicar ! Looked up your friends in Wikipedia. What a pretty little bird! Good for ridding your allotment of bugs.
They are tiny birds. They’re always welcome in my garden. We usually have a resident robin during the winter months also.
I’d go up to it quietly and listen to it. If you have chicks, you can hear them! We have one outside our front door, as it used to nest in a crack in the ceiling but the chicks, kept falling out and dying. 😦 and now!! they have their little house on the wall and you can see the adults zipping in and out of the house and you can hear them screaming inside!! it’s amazing!!!
I can’t hear anything yet, but I don’t think it’ll be long. When I go to the end of the garden I listen and go very quietly. I’ll blog when I hear them.
lovely , can you post a picture sometime? I got a nestbox in a boot sale for 50 p last year. Am goig to put it on the side of the shed at the alotment
I’ll try and get some photos, but I need to be careful. 50p for a nesting box is a bargain.
Awwww….!! I think you should video them for us. I blogged about the birds nest building on my little blog the other week, here’s a link to it and the post with the birds building nests is the second to last post. http://bramblycorner.blogspot.co.uk/
Thank you for being a great inspiration Claire, I feel I know you personnally now after following your updates for so long. (Oh crumbs, do I sound like an internet weirdy weirdo now? Hee hee).
From, ANOTHER Claire. xxx
I’ve just subscribed to you blog. It’ll come up as Claire Stay, but that’s my married name.
I love the photos of the sparrow, I’ll try to get some of my birdies, but I don’t want to scare them.
Cool about the birds…are they named after you?
lol
No they’re not. I may name the babies when they appear, but I’ve no way of knowing how many there are as the house is enclosed.
I am very happy to have several sparrows nesting in the rafters of my shed. They are always welcome in the garden. All the best from across the pond.
They’re so sweet to watch as they fly in and out of the box. Makes me feel very proud.
Between the british Great Tits and Butt barrels, its like watching an episode of spitting image. Anyhow. Hello from the states! I have been watching a few of your videos while drinking a cup of PG (Can thank my Londoner GF for that one). Really great stuff. The videos I mean. 🙂
This last winter I decided to tear up the front lawn (garden) and the back. Figuring sod is useless for the most part other than keeping the soil there. Now I have nearly 1000SF of garden beds to play with. Corn, beans, wheat, and potatoes in the back. They are in 4 foot by 25 foot blocks. And another 500SF or so in the front yard for all the greens, 200 plus onions (maggio, amposta, stuttgarts, leeks, and jumbo sweets) broccoli, mustard, cabbages, and the Solanum bed (hot/sweet peppers/ okra/aubergine/tomatoes)
I find it satisfying to see people still working the soil. Growing their own food. It’s a part of the human culture sadly we have pushed aside in our modern living. Doesn’t quite lend itself to any sort of disasters be they natural or economic.
Anyhow! Thanks.
Off to watch a few more videos

Hello from across the pond. I like to keep people entertained as best I can. A few little laughs are good. Wow you’ve been busy digging up your garden, and loads of planting. Vegetable growing is a dying art form. Once everyone did it, but I suppose with our busy lives it has fallen by the wayside. It’s such a shame, but some people just don’t have the time. My husband is very busy at work, and out for 11 hours each day on mon-fri. The weekends are catching up on post and the like. I sometimes sneak off to the allotment for a couple of hours, but I do like to see him.
All the best,
Claire
